28/58 30/10/06 16:07 ORKNEY Old Man of Hoy from NW

This famous sandstone sea stack is about 137 metres high. This is a challenge even for experienced rock climbers. It was first climbed in 1966. Formed some 400 years ago by sea erosion, this stack originally had two "legs" which gave it its name. One leg was washed away by the sea.
