91/176 30/04/06 12:25 Ivinghoe Beacon Chalk turf 02

This Chalk soil from open downland, near Ivinghoe Beacon. This is a good example of a Rendzina soil in which there is an organic-rich 'A' horizon lying directly on chalk rubble. They characteristically occur on the steepest slopes of the chalk uplands.
