In addition to the activities and information on Soil-Net, you might like to know about some other ways of learning about the environment. Many organisations offer you the opportunity to do this, and a few of these are given below:
Scout Association
The
Scout association offers a range of activities and badges linked to environmental activities. For the Cubs these include the 'Global Conservation', 'Naturalist' and 'Scientist' badges. For the Scouts these include 'Forester', 'Global Conservation', 'Naturalist' and 'Small Holder'.
Girl Guiding Association
The
Girl Guiding association also offers a range of badges and activities related to environmental issues. For the Brownies, these include 'Science Investigator', 'Environment', 'Gardener' and 'Wildlife Explorer'. For the Guides, these include 'Science', 'World Issues', 'Hobbies' and 'Finding your Way'.
The National Trust
The
National Trust offer a wide range or activities, such as guided walks and ways to 'get involved' with their conservation activities. Each regional National Trust office will show their upcoming events on their websites. Why not arrange to go away for a 'conservation weekend' to learn more about this subject!
Conservation volunteers
Conservation volunteering is a great way to learn about environmental matters, whilst often also helping your local community enjoy the environment also. There are many such organisations you can join, one such example being the
BTCV.
Gardening
Gardening is a great way to learn about soil and plants, and you can develop your interest in environmental matters and learn more about how soil plays a role in our lives. If you don't have a garden you can always rent an allotment to grow plants and vegetables in. Soil-Net can help you get started too with its section on
the soil garden!
